In bed last night VAMPIRE LOVERS [1970]. Lots of Bristols in this. Ingrid Pitt , Peter Cushung & a youngish Kate O'mara.
This channel now has free catch up which is cool.

Shelly.
... THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH absolutely WICK mini series. Up there with Game Of Thrones only this isn't a fantasy. Pretty-well faithful to the Ken Follet 1000 page best-seller, and I should know cos I just finished the book.
Feck-feck-feckin' excellent. (Only Matthew McFadden's Welsh accent peters out after a while and Ruphus Sewel is too short to play master-builder, Tom Builder.)
Oh, of course this is a German/Canadian co-production. If it were American made, I wouldn't watch it. (Cos American tv/cinny is geared for the shithouse operative crowd.)

DUNE '84
UTTERLY ridiculous costumes
Shit "soundtrack" with Toto & Eno and totally juvenile/unacceptable closing credits music.
cheesy special effects
too much stream-of-consciousness.
Too many characters packed into 2 hours (but cant be helped cos the Herbert book has all these characters). Many characters going nowhere/dead ends unnecessary to plot. (Duncan Idaho is a semi-main chracter in the book. Here he is totally glossed over.) Difficult to watch (just as the book was difficult to keep one from sleeping. I rarely do not finish a novel but Dune I WOULD have given-up on ,if it weren't for the fact is was part of the scifi course I took in university.
Doesn't hold the attention .WAY too long.
No wonder they reviewed it as a waste of 40 million.

UNFORGOTTEN SEASON 3
yep, yet another cop detective series from Blighty. (Its endless)
Is this a fantasy world or wot? - here in Toronto area we have a murder every day. If you follow this program, and series like New Tricks (2003-2015) and Waking The Dead , it would seem UK is totally bald of murder. Police are sitting round twiddling their nutsacks - nothing to do. UK cops probably dream of getting real murder cases.
Why say this? Because Unforgotten and New Tricks have police detective forces utterly fixated on murders long-past their expiry date. Loike this season three is dealing with a murder of a young girl that happened 18 years ago, foxsake!
They call it "cold case department" and you have not one detective, but a friggen ROOMFUL working on this age old murder.
So I guess this -and Midsomer Murders (where every village has 2 or 3 successive murders)...are pure fantasies.

The Stranger Kids sci-fi TV story from the mid 60's. A favourite of mine thought lost but rescued from ABC Australia vaults and put on Youtube, sadly with little restoration work. I wish it could be fully restored and a DVD/Blu-Ray released, but these physical formats are fading away now as the great unwashed turn to Netflix Episode 11 is the climax of this slow burner series I think. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-GXWM6h13s&list=PLsPVOdZ3LN6fRpJGj4yda0BuBkaA4YMDg&index=11Gawd, I'm so anal I looked up the exterior sites used for filming back in 1964 and one or two are still recogniseable...

MARGRETE: QUEEN OF THE NORTH (2021, Norway???)
This was first-rate.
True historical. Margrete has achieved what no Nordic king could: unified Sweden,Norway and Denmark.
The year is 1402 and its been a healthy peace, but now the Germans are invading - but this film is not about them.

KILL SWITCH
Completaly forgettable. (i could only take a half-hour of this tripe.) Abounds in mindless punchouts.
Two bald black-wannabees go on our hero (actor Seagal) and i swear it dragged on for a solid 5 minutes violence. I didn't count but the one adversary must have taken 50 punches to the face and still pops up fresh as a daisy like fucking wack-a-mole.
Our hero's signature seems to be a leather greatcoat - heavy to fight in and leather soaks up sweat and never lets go the stink, so that's mebbe why it aint in fashion since Greengrass and the mid-60s. I mean, I gots a beautiful soft leather greatcoat. You think I'd ever dare WEAR it. No thanks. I'd look a roight cunt.
Someone should inform our hero that ,were he to discard the leather, mebbe he could do the job in 5 punches instead of fifty. Fucksake, he must make love with that stink-greatcoat on.
Stupid-ass movie.

TIME BANDITS
What a cast! Two of my all-time fav actors: Sir Ralph Richardson & David Warner. Cleese & Palin,Sean Connery, Ian Holm
You cant go wrong.
Music Mike Moran & George Harrison (who likely funded a portion of the film.)

THE CODE
Yet another break-into-the-uncrackable-vault inept movie. And YET AGAIN Morgan Freeman - likely the most-featured American current actor (in over 50 movies and ALWAYS playing...you guesed it, himself.)

HEREAFTER
pretty interesting film.
three separate stories (French woman with out-of-body experience, Matt Damon* as reluctant psychic, twin boys one dies) and you know there is gonna be something to link them but you can't really figure out what. (Turns out to be Charles Dickens!)
*Damon shilled crypto currency, telling us all to "seize the moment" and buy.
Haha! Guineas deserve wot they get.

SCOOP
Scoop the poop.
Written,directed and staring Woody Allen.
Ian McShane is the ghost of a journalist
Its disheartening to see 5 or 6 quality BRITISH actors getting but a single - or none at all! - line.

THE ROAD
vIGO mORTENSTEIN IS EXCELLENT HERE.
One of the most depressing movies - and I don't mean this in a bad way.
After nuclear holocaust?? -this is never explained. Nor is it explained why a few humans survived.
Insects, birds gone. Trees burned to fuck. You can almost smell the ashes.
Shot in shades of grey & brown.
Wots the most depressing movie you know? Where people beaten down so much that they have lost the desire to simply survive. Mine is the dystopia of "1984" (John Hurt,Richard Burton)
