Done a drawing today for the stands. Just waiting on the Wood to arrive. Waiting game once again I got rid of most of my tools. No way I’d be able to do something like that with hand tools, I’ve long since thought metal wasn’t the ideal material it was made out to be. Besides, I have an issue with black agricultural ironwork sat in my lounge. I’ll leave that to the old hoarders you see on American pickers.

Nobody to my knowledge has ever done resonance measurements to see exactly what a speaker stand does good or bad. Wood can subjectively soften and bloat up the bass, but I can't remember if this is with the speaker plonked on top with no bump-on feet or similar in between - I use these from RS - uk.rs-online.com/web/p/anti-vibration-mounts/1735960/Unlike blue or black tac, they don't seep into the veneers and didn't 'sound' any different to spikes when we began to notice how bad top spikes were for speaker cabs, even ones not hauled around on dem as ours were. Nothing wrong with a properly welded metal stand, but some of the tubular ones can ring if not filled with cat litter or lead shot. Some boxes like massy stands and other more talky ones (the BBC derivatives) needed a light space frame type with minimal contact underneath. Me? I'm a pauper so found a couple of oak lamp tables which I had made to fit the Spendors (and by default, the Harbeths too) They cost me eighty quid the pair, look fine for what I need and they can be re-purposed after their use as stands. Looking at the Euro-popular Tontreaga stands at a grand or so which are slim wooden affairs that you level with strips of veneer ffs, I'm very happy...

Wood stands are what i use nothing else. I actually see a lot more Wooden stands these days. Not interested in all that Ringing & Resonance measurement bull shite. As long as the Speakers sit off the stands im fine. Ordered some of these below for the stands, Ordered bigger ones for under the turntable. At the end of the day all im interesturd in doing is stopping vibrations getting from the Speakers up the Hi-Fi rack to the Turntables, Other than that so called Sound Properties are not in the Equation

I’d like to extend the footprint of my stands. I might just get some oak board and make some larger base plates, the alternative is to buy some of these aluminium struts taht extend the footprint, £80 for 8 seems a bit much though

If those struts are what i think they are, They are meant to bolt to the bottom of Floor standers. Dont see why they cant be incorporated into your own design.

Plenty available in China land. I suppose you could use three per speaker cut cost down
