Loverly, my fav Armstrong. I had a mint '421', wish id kept it cos apparently you dont stand much chance these days of getting a mint one. Only downside was the mild steel Sleeve with the vinyl effect wood covering that just slots into the front & rear fascias, The Vinyl was applied to the sleeve before it was riveted together so re finishing a sleeve is impossible.. Sounded better than my old '521' even though it was basically the same circuit. Germanium Transistors always sounded better than Silicon to me putting the unreliability issues aside. However the 'AL102' can be replaced with '2N3614'.. Same senario with the TRIO 'TK-150' Vs 'KA2000', I preferred the 'TK-150'- I preferred the look off the 400 series Tuner/Amp tho, Looks more Schexy

Some '421' pics inc one that has had done to it the sort of thing I hate with a passion. What a ferkin idiot, Only an idiot would do that. Aye they were slot in Cards like the Quad '33', for easy service. Never any slot connection problems tho. Anyone wanting to buy a '500'/'600' series amp, your looking at an expense to Re cap them.

TRANSCRIPTORS/J.A.MICHELL 'HYDRAULIC REF' with 'FLUID ARM' Best looking turntable/Arm ever created. Still in amazement to this day that this Vinyl grinder was designed in 1963.

View AttachmentAt the shop I worked in, the manager took one in against a Rega 3 and gave £50 for it. The owner bollocked him for wasting money lol

Always loved the look of these. I’d probably buy a pair today if the condition was good and the price was right
