TOM PENAGUIN - SAME (2023)
Newer bands attempting Canterbury are few and far between and they all suck. With one exception - this guy from Brittany.

I’ve never listened to 10cc. I do remember them having a big hit which I didn’t mind, but I can’t even remember what it was. I googled that song and heard a YouTube but I couldn’t really follow or understand it. It didn’t seem to have a regular tune or structure that I could pick up on. Just too subtle or sophisticated for me, I guess. I suppose you either got them or you didn't. The first four albums with the classic lineup of Godley, Creme, Gouldman & Stuart had some endearing (to me) and very clever songs and impeccable production. No two songs were the same and the lyrics could be hilarious! I'm Not In Love was very tricky to make but only the tip of their creative iceberg really.
I also love reading about the Strawberry Recording Studio facility they had up in Stockport.
Try this - original singer but with a simple mix the current 10CC band could play along to (it seems overall that three of them can speak to each other but maybe not Eric Stuart and Graham Gouldman possibly). I always loved this song but Lol is missing in this version -

Prior to the stuff posted here, the only 10cc I’d heard was “I’m not in love” which I can get and enjoy. The other stuff I just can’t really grasp or relate to. It’s hard to describe as I genuinely don’t dislike it, but I just can’t make sense of it. I did like a couple of Godley and Crème hits, but I hadn’t made the link to 10cc. I guess I just have simple tastes. Also probably born a bit too late to have had 10cc amongst the songs I grew up with.

(Not Bloody Tourists which was a later post-split 10CC album )
Still with 10CC, my recently bought vinyl of Sheet Music doesn't seem to be as original as I hoped, as despite being a 'Melys plus Melys?' cut, the label doesn't have the silvered lettering of the original - so I've bought another copy with silvered label lettering as a last resort.
Why am I effin well bothering as I have the songs of this album a few times over now? I just want a clean non-dropout version of Old Wild Men to put me mind at rest and to hopefully show me my vinyl rigs ain't total junk and that it's worth me bothering at all with HiFi in general in my retorement years...
So yeah, still playing Sheet Music in one form or another and finding it hugely enjoyable

Couldn’t you take your copies to someone with a good setup that they know is on song? If it’s still playing up, then it’s maybe always going to be there on vinyl.

Just received an email from Frank Ifield's son with whom I worked with in the 90s to say Frank passed away today. Frank was a popular singer in the 60's and 70's and he lived nearby in the 80's although I personally never spoke to him. RIP sir... Good album this and almost no yodelling too...

I’d expected he’d have passed a long time ago. Born 1937, butnid expected him to have been 10 or more years older than that.

The later digital releases of that song all have the dropout to one extent or another, so I suspect it's the UK Records master which has worn. Not sure if anyone will bother, but there must be a safety copy done which maybe Eric Stuart is (band) custodian of? It's of so little interest today and bearing in mind UK Records is Jonathan King, heaven knows frankly...
As for my vinyl copy, the lettering is dark blue on blue background with a late stamp number (still a Melys cut) but I've ordered an earlier (as I discovered) silver text on blue background and hope it sounds better as my copy had plenty of high frequencies on it...
This is the second one I've just bought if I can copy a pic - It's obviously been played, but I hope not to death on a groove grinder!

My first ever 45 single was given to me it was 10cc "RUBBER BULLETS" That was on the Blue/Silver text UK Records label. Why not try to source the 2013 Japanese CD edition of 'SHEET MUSIC' see how that fares. Here Dave this might interest you, McCartney was working at Strawberry when 10cc were doing 'SHEET MUSIC' www.the-paulmccartney-project.com/session/recording-mcgear-album/
