I took the petites apart yesterday because they need a full cabinet refurb and re-spray. One tweeter was also in need of getting dimples out from behind, and both bass units need new dust caps. I will need to take some more pics, or enhance the ones I did take, to show what’s inside. I can give a few insights though. 1. The as unit and tweeter are held in with black rubber sealant. The bas units in particular come out pretty easily. Note, you not need to remove the fascia rim around the driver. No screws are used so it’s pointless. 2. If you are trying to remove this ring in order to re-spray, you need to be very careful because it tends to attach itself to the edge of the roll surround. As such, you need to gently prise away from the inside edge, next to the roll surround. 3.The tweeter faceplate is quite thin plastic and clearly replaces the one that the driver was made with. Rubber mastic again seals the tweeter parts together and also secures the tweeter to the cabinet. 4. The bass unit simply has Neat P1 on it, so I’m not sure if it’s origin. 5. The tweeter has no markings, but appears to be a modded version of this Audax. www.ukaudiomart.com/details/125649-audax_dtw100ti25_4_ohm_1_dome_tweeters/images/140388/6. The internal wiring is Monster 16/2. Bob was always fond of the cheapie Monster speaker cable and used it in his dem room. Cabinets are lined with bitumen pads everywhere. The internal wadding is a pretty tough foam a bit like what’s in Epos ES14s. 6. The crossover has 2 large inductors, a handful of ceramic resistors, one Ansar Supersound cap and 2 Jantzens. I won’t be messing with any aspect of these apart from the cosmetics. I like my stuff to look like it’s just been newly made from the factory.

Oh, by the way, I dropped Bob an email asking of I could buy some replacement caps. A day later, a pair arrived free of charge. He did the same last time with my Petite 3s. He always was a lovely fella.

I think Bob is from up your way.. They were proof that you dont need expensive drivers to get top notch sound..Can't you get a new metal dome for that tweeter?

Yeah Bob started with a 2nd hand hifi shop in Darlington (Neat Hifi). I actually heard the prototypes before they were released for sale. That tweeter is a very uncommon one and the dome is actually a soft plastic. They were “dusted” with a microscopic layer of titanium. I’ve got about 90% of the dimples out, but it takes time to persuade something that’s even deformed for years to re-form.
If I ever see another compatible Audax, I will buy it immediately. For now I will have to try and get the existing dome to 99% plus or better,

I’ve not had a lot of time, but some bits are already better. This is the tweeter, which still needs lots of time And the other one cleaned up The bass units now have the new dust caps and I’ve also re-blacked the paper cones, which had gone brown over time. Cabinets are masked ready fir sanding, filling and painting,

Only time I ever went there.

I forget the other bloke who used to work alongside Bob. They were both great to chat to, and I never once felt like they were trying to sell me anything. I think I bought a top pe Rock there on one visit. That was a fun ride home on train and bus.
