My late dad bought a Rotel RA-314 in the late 70's he used it constantly day in day out, my sister still uses it now, working fine to this day.
I used to give him my british junk cast offs over the years but he still kept using the Rotel.
You can sell these 70's Japanese amps with the power VU meters day in day out at very good prices.

Those Rotel amps should last. I have the 840BX3 which I'm keeping as a back up. Still fine after 30 years. They usually are reliable. I’m sure that one was some sort of factory reject, it went bang, with smoke but it didn’t harm the speakers, so obviously properly made in that respect. If I see something now and it’s full of chips, surface mounts, computer cable etc, it’s an immediate “blackball” for me. The little Leben reminds me of older build quality and it pays big dividends sonically as well as in terms of reliability.

My mate picked up an Edwards Audio deck. If you recall I bought two and both had to be returned due to problems. His arrived with the captive part of the univivot unscrewed, the arm tube not even glued and the spindle snapped off. I’m really glad I didn’t go for a third one.
