Not here sadly - the Police/Crimne commissioner *would someone tell me exactly what these peiople actually DO for us? who's a long-term Tory has just been voted back in. The Lib Dems said that if their 'candidate' won, they'd not take up the post and divert the salary to what's really needed in the east Suffolk force - more bobbies preferably on the beat (yeah, right). So, if the people in this area voted Tory regardles, you can bet Coffey will slink in come electiontime as most peoiple here can barely look in front of them, let alone to the side and heaven forbid they look behind - all age groups not just the elderly and I do try not to be like this I didn’t know a lot myself, beyond they are supposed to be an elected voice who can “theoretically” hold police chiefs to account. There’s an article here but I’m still a bit vague on what mechanisms they can use to coerce police forces if they won’t do-operate. www.apccs.police.uk/role-of-the-pcc/#:~:text=Role%20of%20the%20PCC%20and,within%20their%20police%20force%20area.

Sadly we got shafted with our mayoral election. The local,Party wanted to have Jamie Driscoll. The existing North Tyne Mayor as their candidate. Starmer had other ideas and blocked him from standing. He was forced to run as an independent whilst some airhead soft Tory Starmer Stepford Wives cuckoo was parachuted in. She won and Driscoll finished second whilst standing as an independent. He seemed like a good bloke who had principles and beliefs too. www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/jul/18/labour-voters-party-support-resignation-mayor-jamie-driscollWhat’s the point of a two party system when both are led by Tories?

I’d have loved to see him as Prime Minister. Let Starmer go lead the Tories in opposition.

Mark Harper on Kuenssberg this morning -
'Sometimes people get to a point with their government where they stop listening, Laura suggests. Are you worried you might be at that stage?
Harper says no - people want us to drive down inflation and cut taxes which we have been doing.'
No Mr harper, what the public want is a better run health service, better funded road-health too and councils not penny pinched to the point of bankrupcy.
Why do the Tories keep banging on about lower taxes? They were doing it in the 70's FFS and reducing taxation means money has to be got or borrowed from somwhere else, doesn't it? I thought Labour was th eparty of borrowing till the cows come home, at least, that's what we've been fed over the years and Corbyn's lot definitely indicated that with all the promises they made had they got in.

They really are very outdated in their outlook and ideology. As you say, it’s not a persuasive line to take these days. People know that “low taxes” is a scam because it just means lowering one tax to raise another. Even Thatcher raised VAT when she cut income tax. The on,y shift in the burden of taxation has been to help the rich. Worse still, Truss was going to borrow massively in order to do more of that. We can’t really borrow much more in the foreseeable future anyway. If and when we can and do, it needs to be used for infrastructure and investment, not tax cuts.

I forgot 'Education, Education, Education' to my list above too. We have a pair of schools, one nursery/infant and the other a junior school federated together. They're judged 'good' but the bank balance shows an alarming shortfall and this will need correcting in terms of support staff and maybe even teacher availability as level 3 teaching assistants can tech classes in some things as well as support in maths for small groups and so on.
I know we need to grow by finding ways to regenerate income, but the current way of simply strangimg the economy is making people lethargic and not wanting to engage, thereby causing a visious circle I feel. How the hell are we going to break this situation?

Ive heard some shit in my life but the latest wanting to ban Apostrophe on street signs because its apparently causing problems with computers & geographical databases. All new signs will be made without them regardless of the old having Apostrophe. Computers have already f*cked the world up as it is imho now it just gets worse letting them change things once again
I get tired of living & people & their bollox. Fat people get stick for being overweight, now thin people are getting stick for being thin. What is it then do people need to be a standardised weight. If there is anything id like to see gone & that is social media. Lets all live in a controlled structured society where everyone looks the same, wears the same clothes, gets paid the same, have standardised cars, possessions etc so no one can judge anyone?
All these movies like Logans Run, THX 1138 etc

Great stuff! One more rat leaving the sinking shit. This guy’s book is gaining traction as a challenge to the freemarket nonsense we’ve endured since 1979. www.theguardian.com/books/article/2024/may/08/the-road-to-freedom-by-joseph-stiglitz-review-against-hayekIt’s being cited by the likes of Rachel Reeves and other influential economic voices. That’s great but it’s just stating the bleeding obvious. It’s also what I’ve been pointing out to anyone who would listen all the way from 1979 to now. Still, if people finally get the message and we see an end to the poison our society has willingly been ingesting for decades, more power to him.
