Album artwork is inextricably linked to the music. (Especially so with concept works.) It sways one's appreciation of the music. (That is why cds with their 6X6 jewel cases can go fuck.)
Often a great lp is overlooked simply because it is known for shit/lazy coverart. (Refugee-same immediately comes to mind. Or True Myth - same)
Now I am going out on a limb maintaining that, of all the music genres, prog has the best jacket coverarts. This is followed by psych. The fewest lame band/artist cover poses.
An observation: notice how more than often when a prog band goes limp and commercial, the shit-cover reflects this. For instance Camel "Nude", Genesis "Abacab","Duke".Gentle Giant...
