Westie and I have chatted about this and from personal crap here, PLEASE try not to kick stuff out on a knee-jerk! I've been doing some (for me) deep thinking about gear I've owned, loved and sold, usually for financial reasons and one notable pair of active speakers I wish i could have kept, sold for love, marriage and a total subsequent life change... need I say more I've NEVER had such good sounds at home since and I'm pissed about it now. I'd like to have kept my Revox plus master tape copies, but CD's of the material I had on tape sounded better (less grainy) and despite the looks, the thing would just be a dust collecting ornament now. I look at my vinyl players and nearly weep over the loss of the Notts Analogue deck I once loved. In recent times I've grown to hankering after an LP12 deck cobbled together out of traded in parts just for old time's sake - I have a reasonable 1982 screwed-block plinth, so that's a start I think I know enough about the sodding things now to be able to get acceptable sounds from such a cobble if I get the arm right Having said that, the precise pitch stability of a serious idler model (301, 401, Lenco) is highly tempting as long as colouration, noise and feedback related low level shit doesn't get in the way... A shame it seems that Tiger Paw are no more. The top plate worked with typical plinths of any age and the magnetic bearing aid which reduces the load on the bearing point by 75% or so was also a good idea imo. The Javelin tonearm was a delight, being easier to handle with less wobble than an ARO and far, FAR better to my ears than a current £1600 or so Akito which sounds as grey and grainy as ever to me.. Hey Ho... I know some mid price gear can sound exceptionally good for the money but things like this are obviously made to a price point, I see this & eradicate it, i do always have a plan which will go to that plan most times, when it does benefits are to be reaped.. For instance the Rega 'RB-250' i find a better arm than the 'RB-300' to tweek, probably the reason John Michell chose it as a base unit.. When they are correctly sorted they sound superb, Might sound daft but will wipe the floor with a lot of Highly expensive arms.. This really is it this time with Hi-Fi so if the Rebuilds cost more than i would get back value wise it does not really matter to me.

She has a fav saying 'You can get your Hi-Fi moods off for starters' or if i have them on she will say 'Is it the Hi-Fi by any chance'?

Oh no Andr'e, I must disagree - a good running GL75 with original arm too, absolutely destroys an Axis. if you want an Axis sound, a modern Rega 3 with add-on Neo supply would do it easily...
I repaired a couple last year and had to fit Hercules boards to replace the knackered old Linn one. The thing still sounds mechanical and lacking in 'flow.'
Slightly tacky build (sub chassis and plinth frame) and suspect worn bearing aside, I'd have a TD150 today, which is usefully enhanced by fitting to an old LP12 plinth. yes I know the Thorens has issues (my TD160 runs fast as do Regas with the stock belt but I can change speed, where the pattern slightly thicker belt runs at precisely correct speed but is too 'tight' to allow speed change even with the motor pulley clutch). The TD150 never had the bloom of the LP12 and the mk2 arm especially, should respond well to sensible choice of modern cartridges up to sub £300 MM's at least.
P.S. Andr'e - if the Rega bias bits bother you, why not ask if they have the alternative parts still in stock. You might be surprised as my RP3 base needed a switch and no modern one fits - they had 'em stashed away in a cupboard, but found one and sent it to me!

Hi Dave I should have said i prefered the Axis/LVX to the LP12/LVX. Exactly the same with Pink Triangle, Prefer the 'Little Pink Thing' to the 'PT-1'/'TOO' You cant contact Rega Direct, you have to go thru a dealer who are certainly not gonna put the, selves out for a Bias slider.. This is the one i wanted. Mine is a very early model with green slider, it will bug me i know it wil LOL

The Grace cartridge is an E77 (elliptical) or P77 (line) in better clothes I believe. Colour aside, the body is the same I believe and shared with all sorts. Sumiko Pearl and siblings still use it.
