Apart from a very early liking for Bowie, my first musical love was Country. Not the honky tonk variety I might add. John Denver was a big favourite but there were plenty others too.
Throughout my life, country-influenced music has been a regular attraction. Lately the Rega Planet I bought for my wife to use has really opened my ears to Country music again. She’s been spinning discs all the time, and she’s always been into Country and Easy Listening. It’s been great because we have music on more of the day than ever before. New discs and new artists are appearing too.
Now I don’t expect anyone else here to share the same tastes, but my point was really that the music you have in your roots can be really deeply ingrained. Even if you don’t realise. I do wonder if it’s the same for lots of other folk, but Hi-Fi forums are probably one of the last places you’d find folk admit it. There’s a real snobbery about the genres and artists that it’s acceptable to listen to. Country and easy listening are definite taboos. I find that sad because it stops other people from hearing about music and artists that would bring more pleasure to their lives.

Wish I could have music on all day, but c'est la vie I had access to music via the radio or my parent's record player ever since I came to be (so 1957 onwards), but the one piece that REALLY started it off was the Doctor Who theme in its original form (not the current crappy orchestral jazzy versions which go against everything Delia Derbyshire and I think composer Ron Grainer wished for the piece). Oh there was pop, rock and so on as well, but my love of certain 'EM' genres was cemented by that one theme tune.

I’m a bit late in getting the music going today because I had a headache that’s still clearing. Probbaly in the next half hour though

You're welcome to ask Shane, but not sure my answer would make overmuch sense to you. Just to say I'm basically retired (when not invigilating) and I don't get much time alone to play the music I love so much - and that herself hates with equal passion...

Having 3 (much) older sisters who bought and played loads of records gave me an early influence and a constant love of 60's music, much of which I still play. I'm a sucker for the 'Boom' and 'Oldies Paradise' radio channels which I constantly play in my car, or at home when I'm working.
