Is there some kind of copyright issue with manufacturing CD Jewel case Trays with the original 'COMPACT DISC' logo? I must have spent a fortune buying replacement trays to find they are either blank no logo or the logo is a poor imitation?

I think it was a trademark linked to the Philips/Sony joint enterprise that was CD.
New cases are never a patch on the originals. You’d think there would be at least a small market for quality cases, but nope. We just get a million versions of cheap shite to choose from.

They all break the same, whether US or EU style of holding the disc in place. I was taught very early on how to open and extract the disc, so most of my breakages have been when ordering and receiving discs by mail... Cardboard sleeves save space but you risk finger marks when getting the discs out as not all can be compresses to open up so the disc slides out easily...
If 'we're' into CD's, we're really out of it now as streaming from the internet or local storage has totally taken over, especially in the audiophool market in the US apparently.

Im not a fan of Digipacks because they can easily get damaged & wear can happen on the sleeves. Clear tray Jewel cases are just shit, There is not enough flex in the retainer hence the teeth get snapped off easily. Black tray are better. The correct way to extract a disc is to press the centre of the retainer with one hand to release the disc, thumb & middle finger of your other hand on the edge of the disc while doing so
btw: i used to collect Japanese card sleeves, not to play, Japan sell specialised sealable sleeves especially for these card sleeves.
Because Japanese card sleeves have specialist inner sleeve too you dont have to finger the disc. All you need to do is put the inner bag with the CD in it label down on the palm of you hand & just let the CD gently slide out onto your palm then grab the edge as you normally would turning it over to insert in the machine.

I’m finding more and more CDs come in digipaks that risk scratching the CD. Also double CDs always deem to have flimsy disc clamps and they don’t seem to have a standard type of case. This makes it hard to replace them because the artwork doesn’t fit. Uniformity is important for storage, but makers just don’t seem to give a shit anymore.

Digipacks are crap, Ive got shut of all mine now thank the lord. The editions where you just slide the CD in a pocket are beyond a joke. The picture below are the Trays i use with the close together teeth. The clear plastic versions are also crap, they just break off.

An increasing number of CDs seem only to come in a digipak. You can’t get the cover art and that’s a real pain.
