Some places never change, you can drive thru them to get the feeling you are in the past, then there is most places where the council have ripped the shit out of it leaving it barebones unrecognisable. These days most people are not bothered in maintaining the outside of their property a lot have those god forsaken concrete fence post that slip the panels in that look no better than a pallet, these people make the areas look an utter shit hole. These people contribute to what i call a shithole. A lot around our part is owned by the Fitzwilliam's they owned load of stuff from Canal to even having their own private waiting room on one of the train station years ago. The village next to use is pretty much owned by them & the rule is cream windows Dark Green Front doors & you know what the place look clean uniform. everything matching www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/strict-village-residents-forced-green-30317044 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Fitzwilliamand ofc the wonderful Wentworth Woodhouse in the back drop en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wentworth_Woodhouse#/media/File:Wentworth_Woodhouse_East_Front.jpg

That church you were confirmed in is very beautiful, Dave,
I used to have thesame longing to return to the WesT Highlands, where my dad was from, but it’s left me now. I’m already “home”. It just took me a long time to find that out.

That church you were confirmed in is very beautiful, Dave, I used to have thesame longing to return to the WesT Highlands, where my dad was from, but it’s left me now. I’m already “home”. It just took me a long time to find that out. I've been back to where I was brought up and it just seems shrunken and grubby compared to our coastal location, all those SUV's cluttering up the place. Yes the church is lovely and in a great setting still. Thing is as regards there, all my main family have passed on now (only a cousin I don't really know there now) and my parents are buried in the cemetery, but that's it. All memories and nothing else...
My issue now is that the place we've lived in for twenty years this August isn't home at all. We're all but in exile and I grieve about that and all my friends are remote and communicable via email as we're so distant from each other.

I was thinking today after looking at the early 1900's Ordinance survey map of where i was brought up. the amount of Houses that were demolished prior to the mid 60's literally hundred of houses & at least four streets are not longer in existence, The reason was half them were slums & lot had to be demolished over re generation. Utter bollox, The only slummy homes i know were the almes Cottages way up the hill were the really poor widowed women lived, but to be honest i would not have classed them as slums.
The 1960's regeneration was making a dual carriageway, Subway that always stank of piss, destroying everything in the process, Demolishing loverly cottage rows just because they were a few feet in the wrong place, building an eye-sore of a shopping centre that was basically a white elephant & a bunch of equally eye-sored council Flats
These days council moan about having no money yet all those houses would have fetch a lot of revenue these days in Council Taxes & the moaning about shortage of Housing they do. They gained nothing but taken away the whole village identity & im sure that's the case with most places all councils piss in the same pot..especially our Labour Council, this is why Labour to me are no better than Tory.
