I, CLAUDIUS (hands down)
BLEAK HOUSE I prefer the 2005 series with Charles Dance as Tulkinghorn - perfect casting - , but the '85(?) miniseries with Diana Rigg as Lady Deadlock, Denholm Elliot as Jarndyce and Peter Vaughn as Tulkinghorn can't be beat either.

Watching Les Miserables for the first time. Excellent.
For decades I've put off giving this a try for the sole reason that they actually had the gall to make a MUSICAL of the Hugo novel. Can you believe it? A musical of such a leaden, depressing story?? What next, a music hall version of Hitler? Well ,thankfully this is not a fucking musical. (And I should add that Wallesch deplores ALL musicals. That's the sort of rubbish yer wives watch.

I hate ALL musicals too…
Except for The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Brigadoon. Oh and most of the Elvis movies. Apart from those, musicals should be banned.

I stopped watching when Sylvester McCoy turned up. I almost got back into it when David Tennant took the role, but all this Woke nonsense of having to have women and Blacks just makes me automatically want to turn off. They won’t be happy until we have a black lesbian dwarf spinning round in a wheelchair and using sign language to say I’m the Doctor. Just as bad was Catherine Tate. Such a minger and not entertaining in any way. For me, it should’ve been axed decades ago.

The Doctor can be cocksure but never over-serious like Tennant and the rest were. Even though he is last of species. The world is about to collapse but the Doctor takes it in stride - maybe even cracks a joke. After Baker none of them even came close .

Couldnt stand Baker. He was early 80's. Pertwee is where it was at. The SONTARIANS were way more cool that the DARLEKS

Hartnell and Troughton were ok. I liked both Pertwee and Baker. I could take or leave Peter Davidson and Colin Baker. McCoy was the last straw for me. I hardly watched McGann but I did catch a few Ecclestone ones. Tennant might’ve been ok but no way was I watching Catherine Tate: She’s physically repulsive, noisy, ginger and never, ever funny. I’ve still no idea why she was cast. Did she threaten to shag the director?

I'm currently trawling very happily through the Dr Who classic series DVD's and have currently just finished 'Brain of Morbius' on DVD, which forty years back was one of the two expensive videos of the show I bought (this one on Betamax too!). The DVD extras on each story are well worth the time to watch as well. I didn't get Tom baker until the Shada release a very few years back and after years of finding him ott and annoying, his off-beat charm and eccentricity finally 'clicked' with me and I respect him more than ever as when required, he could ACT with discipline!!! Troughton remains my all-time favourite (his little conversation with Victoria about his family in 'Tomb' endeared me to him forever) but the other three of the first four are superb at their different 'takes' on the character.
Thing is, I'm also trying to get my old bonce around the current RTD2 'specials' which aren't in the same league and which seem aimed solely at primary school kids. I've moaned enough on Planet Mondas and the Caprona forum as regards the wokery and box ticking stuff stuff mentioned above and don't want to let off here, but it's BAD! Not so much an issue with Ms Tate as she does tone herself down a bit and she does get on really well with DT as Sarah-Jane did with Tom B. Not the same show, but I'll keep tuning in as I've done since Christmas 1963 (poor sad old git that I am).
Thoroughly enjoyed the Picard tri-series on Amazon prime (while I have it). Patrick Stewart is very British, so can I include that? Don't really watch telly much otherwise.

So who was the best sidekick? Sarah Jane would get my vote, I reckon.
