The good thing about the Baker period is that the series went less (to a degree) scifi and more Gothic.

But that's just me. Never cared that much for scifi genre.

So who was the best sidekick? Sarah Jane would get my vote, I reckon. GOD BLESS LIZ SLADEN r.i.p.!!! She left us FAR too soon, especially as the Sarah Jane Adventures seemed rather better than the main show at this point...
But for me she wasn't the only one. I loved them all in the classic series apart from that drip Adric (who apparently was one of JNT's 'boyz' I was told). Each one brought something to the show I felt and none had a love crush on the Doctor apart from a father/daughter (Grandfather/Granddaughter) relactionship which I think worked so well.
I know there's a good few UK mini-series I've watched, but all the memories I have are of full blown series I'm afraid as telly wasn't a huge part of my life due to the music and HiFi side.

I quite liked Roy Castle as a sidekick, albeit a very short-lived one.
I didn’t even know Elisabeth Sladen had died until now. From 2011 to 2018 I was abroad most of the time and never followed any news. I only discovered recently that William and Kate had kids lol.

Roy Castle was in the first film (and his gentle slapstick silliness in uber-extreme form is what the current kiddies show is all about I fear) and dear old Bernard Cribbins in the second (r.i.p both). This is how we long established fans felt about the severely edited 'The Daleks In Colour' shown recently, that if one wants to see that story in colour, best to watch the Peter Cushing film which has stood the test of nigh on sixty years at the time of typing.
I've got to see if the Sarah Jane Adventures is on iPlayer, as at the time (15 years back) the odd one I saw was better and more innocent in a good way than the main show and never preachy to the kiddies as the main show is today.

Who's sidekicks were rarely mature women. Kiddie pervert When you're a teenage lad, any young lady over 20 is a 'mature woman' I'm talking about the proper series, not the CBBC show it is now!
P.S. I never lusted after the 80's girlies, especially Mel and Ace FFS...............
