Not sure what 'room' this should be in and rather alien to me as video production for TV was involved, but have a look at the pics to see how and where so many of our UK (lowest common denominator) series were made until the studios shut in 2018 or so.
I wonder if the gear was spread around the other production studios around London or simply sold off? JBL sound monitoring by the look of it including some Crown driven HUGE ones in one room (4430's?)
All these various cables used make audiophile cable nonsense a bit daft really

Sad to see. Probably a number of factors involved, but a lot of them still come down to Britain’s decline.

I can tell you how Thames TV was closed and Thatcher didn't help its demise at all despite rowing back later saying she didn't want the ITV franchise thing to go the way it did (I believe Granada TV is now basically ITV..
It's situations like the above which seriously puts me off the Tory party. Put things up for competitive bids, the cheapest one winning rather than the best, meaning low wages and not good conditions. Thames was apparently doing a good job too, but closed down after losing the franchise.

It’s the very thing that I despise them for. We should have been investing in all the things that were good about Britain not selling them off to anyone and everyone.

They moved programs to the revamped Television Centre which BBC and ITV programs share. Likely some of the equipment was moved as well. Probably auctioned off a lot of kit. It's more a case that most TV programs are done by independent studios. There are new ones here in Bristol as well as Cardiff where BBC do a great deal of output. More a case of moving outside London which can only be a good thing. Also traditional TV companies have to reduce costs due to falling audiences. Competition and crap programs is a vicious circle. Channel 4 are close to going bust.

I can see the nasty YAMAHA NS10 monitors NS10s on a bookshelf as originally intended, were a bit 'lively' but it was okay - just! Free-standing to my lugs was an absolute no-no! But then, Kans were worse and people love them still...
Anyway, did you see the huge JBL's albeit with their grilles on? They had a large model from the 'Control' range in the video mixing studio up in the corners...
The BBC had several large sell-offs of stuff and some of it was usable domestically.

Cant say what they were JBL made quite a few different monsters. I had NS10 when i had my Synth studio, I hated them & got shut. Years down the line i bought a pair of the powered 'HS' which were miles better to my ears.
Tell you a weird story. When i did my two year Studio Engineering course the studio we used was so soundproof i felt sick when ever i went in there. Had that Anechoic Chamber feel totally and utterly dead. Now there was a tiny pair of JBL 'CONTROL 1' in there that sounded absolutely amazing, i could not believe the Bass came from such a small thing. I bought a pair later on & hated them, sounded like a totally different thing in the home. Bass! what Bass lol
Taught me that if speakers sound good in you home they will be on another level in such soundproof dead environment

What happened to all the QUAD '50' power amps BRITISH RAIL used. Also in the VIRGIN MEGASTORE record shop that used to be in Sheffield city centre which had a bank of QUAD '520' Power amps that fed all floors, im assuming the same for all their Mega stores what happened to them?

What happened to all the QUAD '50' power amps BRITISH RAIL used. Also in the VIRGIN MEGASTORE record shop that used to be in Sheffield city centre which had a bank pf QUAD '520' Power amps that fed all floors, im assuming the same for all their Mega stores what happened to them? My pal supplied Our Price records for years with assorted Quad as well as other lower cost brands.
The Quad 500 range was a sleeper for years, being an updated 405 style circuit (op-amp in the feedback loop and not the signal path as before), 100WPC continuous but with a larger (I believe) transformer and supply? I really wish the 606 had looked more like it as in the flesh, the 520 is a beast, albeit a restrained one
No doubt the 50's were either scrapped or maybe sold off piecemeal. The electrolytic caps Quad used back then had limited life (ten years or so if my 405's and tales of 303s are anything to go by), so maybe they were either repaired or maybe junked after

I have no experience of that one, but I bet it's a fair bit better than the 306 into real loudspeakers. Looks great inside and easy? to work on? The 500 models for the most part had supply caps soldered to the board I think and apparently, getting replacement caps may be tricky. Got two friends with 520's and these amps ain't going anywhere any time soon! I got the HH VX300 instead with similar spec but it ain't the same The one linked to has been colour-washed in the pics. Mine had a good use in a broadcast editing suite and the attenuators are showing tiredness sadly, but I sorted the mouldings around the front panel and fixed the DC offset on one channel (an open resistor) and it now goes to 5mV as the service sheet suggests (there's another supply 'balance' adjustment which was fine on the 'good' channel and just a tweak on the other). It's out to pension now but does the pro job brilliantly, even if I prefer me old D-150 overall which changes it's 'tone' with the recordings fed it more. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204554124810Here's mine inside. Hot running bias resistors are top left on the front circuit board - See how the front panel decals have rubbed off with use... heavy old thing it is as well.
For anyone's information - the pic below is what happens to a circuit board of an amp powered and used 24/7 for fifteen years at least continuously. Note the hot spots around the bias resistors middle and right and the general hot area on the left which I believe may be to do with powering the board components although I'm not sure. The supply caps seemed fine so I just replaced the small electrolytics on the main board

I’m clueless with these Quad professional amps. I’d never even heard of them until I saw them popping upon EBay. I’ve never come across anyone on a hifi forum using one either, they look ok inside but I’ve no idea how they differ from the consumer Quad amps.

They are designed for ultimate reliability.. They have active balanced IEC inputs on XLR as well as 4 pole Speakon outputs (510/520 used XLR outs). mains connector is clamped so it cannot be accidently pulled out. You name they super reliable.
I would not personally rely a standard consumer amp in a studio Broadcast situation. Be no good anyway they wouldnt use a non symmetrical connection in that environment

If im honest i would have my old QUAD '50E' pair back over any of those amps. Brilliant amps, bomb proof reliability for 1966 Pair there but have XLR Mains inlets, mine were totally original with the original Bulgin mains inlet. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325951017652?
