My dad used to have a late 60's Slingerland kit with Ludwig snare. I always used to say Ringo Stars Ludwig kit was the best sounding kit ever made but disagreements arose LOL.. Modern drums sound shite to me.

I dont like the Vistalite kits but there is more Depth in the floor tom toms although there was always something about those drums that didnt sound right to me. Super Classic kit is where its at.

These early 70's SOLARA were beautiful, They came out about 1972, '2000' Tuner/Amp alone or music centres with the Tuner/Amp fitted with DUAL turntables or the THORENS 'TD160/1'.. '2001'/'3001'

He didn’t go where I expected him to. I did like some of his philosophical takes. I’m not sure I agree with him or Torsten in that I’d rather trust the skill and ears to proper designers over bedroom bodgers. He will obviously have a point in terms of VFM, but he’s talking irrespective of cost, that you have to build yourself if you want amazing sound.
I’d say you’re more likely to get there by buying used kit and trying a good few things to find out what you like.
Thanks for sharing. It’s good to think and to hear other people’s views. Also fun to her there is another forum called Snakeoil Audio lol.

Nice wood grain but the plinth is too thick to my eyes, out of proportion, The wood looks like Chestnut.

I love that one, but then I always seem to prefer chunkier plinths.

Nice wood grain but the plinth is too thick to my eyes, out of proportion, The wood looks like Chestnut. The TD150 was a compact slimline turntable, although it does look good in an LP12 plinth (some would claim it 'sounds' slightly better focused in one as well). Making it look like that is grotesque to me at least.
Hell, I've got two Lenco's here I still can't get enthusiasm to rebuild (GL78) or finish off (GL75).

Ill tell you why it looks stupid to my eyes, retained the original narrow Armboard. They do look ok in the LP12 plinth, even though the wood section is thick, its still a low profile. Does alter the fact its still hard work.
I prefer the 'GL78' cos it has switchable auto lift.
