I like him, I don’t a,ways agree with him and I think he’s sometimes a bit over-enthusiastic about differences, but I think that’s down to a genuine fascination and so I can live with that,

Still my fave cart. You might want to scream, but I liked it so much, I’ve bought two brand new boxed ones for when my current one wears out! I just can’t seem to live without the OC9.

I really like AT carts and usually don’t like Ortofon. I also prefer MC cartridges.

That said, I recently listened to a famous set of needle drops done by The Absolute Sound. Ten different MM and MC cartridges of mask let varying price. Of course I knew I’d hate the 2M black because it was an Ortofon and is largely based on the OM series which I’ve previously referred to as “junk”.

Sadly I ended up having to throw away all my prejudices when I checked my scoring. Clear winner out of all 10 was indeed the 2M black. Worst of all was a Grado. A mega expensive Ortofon MC was pretty average.

It really is hard to just hear the sound without any expectations related to brand or price.

Honestly I don’t. They just sound very clean to me.I like their CD-like presentation albeit with better bass. I do like other carts, especiallly the better DL-103 variants and the olde Supex. These have a different presentation but I like that too. DL-103R on a Mayware was beautiful, but so was the older AT32e mk2 which pisses all vet the AT33ev I recently tried.
