You don’t see them for sale very often. Always a good sign. I often wonder what would’ve happened if I’d been a bit older at the time I came across the A60. I dismissed it on looks alone and was far too influenced by the mags. My first proper listen at home was probably only10 years ago, They are such a Rewarding listen, I might never have been a box swapper. I know I could happily live with an A60 and a pair of Elas, JPW P1s, Gale 301s, Dean Altos or Early Monitor Audios. When they were designing the 'A60' amp they voiced it using a SHURE 'M95ED' cart & SPENDOR 'BC-1' Speakers. So technically thats how they thought it sounded best with.

BTW the GX 95 I mentioned got sold on a few weeks ago, Those two blokes in particular keep buying high end tape decks and don’t even know to use them. They just like the looks And trade them as a commodity. So many ZX7s, RX-505s and a couple of CR7s. No Dragon yet as far as I’m aware. They used to try and offer them to me in trades but I wouldn’t take NAKs in particular because they need TLC and the number of folk who actually know taht they are doing is near zero.

Like i said before, had nothing but issues with NAK's.. If you dont know how to use a 3 Head deck then forget about it you may as well just buy a 2 Head. All tapes need manually collaborating regardless of the Pre Sets already put down in the machine. I have a 3 Head in the other room but would like another to replace the two header i have for playback.

Not sure if any spares can be got for Naks now. They were like sports cars, needing TLC every few years but underperforming if they didn't get it. A CR4 I tried to like used to drift azimuth over the length of a C90 tape and when I asked, was told that was absolutely correct, but careful adjustment could 'minimise' it At the time when I sold the Revox B77 and Mentor deck (this idiot had a Citroen BX GTI money-pit at the time and a very high mortgage for my meagre earnings), I sold my CR7. Looked ordinary on the bottom of the rack , but when brought out to be cleaned and taken by the new owner, it did look mean I have to say...

'700ZXE' is my fav. I do have a soft spot for the pain in the arse '700II' but up against a Tandberg 'TCD-3014'/'3004' Nak's they are like toys IMHO, But we can only dream

When I worked in a hifi shop, one of our customers (my fave customer actually: came in the shop every single day) part exes his Dragon to fund a major upgrade. He bought a CR7 a few months later and said it wasn’t a patch on the Dragon. This was not what the what the mags of the day were saying but that guy knew his stuff. Incidentally most UK dealers used to ship their Nakamichis up to Bernard Maugham up my end of the country, I think he’s finally retired recently. The website still shows them being at the old coach house I’ve visited a few times but my mate who knows Bernie wel told me they had moved. www.maughanamps.com/about.shtml

I think B&W took on Nakss at one point.. At one time all you got with fans were '1000ZXL' Never liked the looks nor like the looks of the 'Dragon'.. I get put off with decks that are too busy on the front panel. Rather have something a bit more less cluttered like a 'BX-300'.

Whilst I’m not a tape guy today, I have a massive soft spot for JVC/Victor gear. That looks like a really beautiful machine to me and the icing on the cake are the MA-X90 and the MRX Pro 90 sat on top. When working for Richer Sounds I bought absolutely loads of blanks that never got used. I liked the That’s best but also loved the TDK SA-X90. No idea what happened to the blank tapes but I sure wish I’d had them today. . A few people bought the MRX Pro 90 by the box-load. Not a bad investment hen you see what they go for today,

Thats's tapes were great, they were the best at Super Ferrics'. The 'MR-XPRO' was a brilliant tape but no chance getting NOS these days without a price tag..
Im a 80's TDK 'AD'/'AD-X' & 'SA'/'SA-X' guy.

Must be my lucky week this week, another batch of ten 1980's TDK 'AD90' cropped up, I always buy up batches of these when they turn up, but it can be weeks on end some times..
