Here’s a shot of Morse’s Xerxes/RB300 A few oddities though: 1. The PSU in the first episode is missing 2. The Naim sonoebox power amp or HI Cap isn’t well sited. 3. Where’s the preamp? 4. A Mission 70 speaker? Not really up to the rest. 5. What are the labels? Did they just borrow them from a local dealer? What about the cartridge?Linn Karma?

I remember seeing Morse in Richardsons office with a pair of what looked like Sennheiser HD424 Headphones. Yeah I spotted them, but couldn’t be sure it they were 414 or 424. I had a few Sennheiser back in the day but just never got on with any of them.

I recon they were '424' as '414' are a really old design/ the '424' sound nice & clear unlike some other Senz. Very few i like too same with AKG dont like a lot of those. The AKG K141 Mk.2 are really the only AKG i like even those aint super clear but seem to match the amps ive been using ok. The ones i keep looking out for are the original 'K180' from 1968. I need a pair of that style vintage look phones, tried a few Japanese models that look simular but did not sounded great.

A Technics SL-P1200 does an excellent job of driving the Sennheiser HD 424s. Tried numerous, but none came close to the pairing with the 424s. It's all I use. Got my first pair in the late 70s using them with a Pioneer SA-508. In the 80s one channel went. When I enquired about a replacement driver, it was £14 and never bothered. Next time I thought about it, it was too late as spares weren't available. Few years ago got a refurbished pair from a German seller for £66, I think. Shortly afterwards, a pair came up on eBay with only one driver working. Got them cheap so now have a pair for spares and some pads. Excellent! And have enough bass for me - which some criticize them for.

Got a good still of the labels on Morse’s hifi. “Richards Audio Research” as in the first episode. Very clumsy attempt on the Nairn amp/PSU as part of the Naim logo is sticking out to the left.

The Richards company was just suppose to be a turntable manufacturer wernt it? I’m not sure. Weren’t the headphones theirs too? The tv producers never really care much about consistency. The stick on labels look so cheap it’s crazy. No hifi firm would stick tat like that on a product. It’s been a while since I watched Morse, but I seem to recall him having a midi system in later episodes.

There's what looks like a really well sorted system in the Peloton ad......the guys obviously a vinyl freak. Just shows that you don't need to have a toppling floor-to-ceiling pyramid of boxes to get a decent noise going on. Can anyone i.d. the kit and the furniture it's stacked on?
