Something really odd just dawned on me. The 'Tales of the unexpected' theme was by Ron Grainer in the late 70's yet i just clearly heard it playing on a saloon bar type piano on The 1949 movie 'Man on the Run' !

Maybe he heard and adapted it? No idea really, but apparently The Beatles' Lady Madonna piano piece was a huge riff from a Humphrey Lyttleton track recorded in the late 50's (and don't go there with much of the Led Zeppelin song portfolio ) Anyway, The Doctor Who theme he did was basically a one-off (open to persuasion if it ain't) and Delia Derbishire did such an amazing and original realisation of it (best of all the show's theme versions IMO)
