What would it be.
Same goes for records. What one would you have that you don’t have now?
Mine is easy.

Records well my massive collection of Progressive 1st issues.
As for Hi-Fi. Maybe J.A.Michell 'Hydraulic Reference' with Fluid arm & ADC '26' These were insanely high compliance cartridges that worked perfectly with the Fluid arm which was a super low mass arm. Was a large turntable that you needed a lot of space for the lid prop to work. Sold it & retained the J.A Michell 'Focus One' but i missed the spinning weights, i did plan buying a Transrotor 'Golden Shadow' which was basically a 'Focus One' with the spinning weights platter but could never locate one. I actually wont 1st place on AOS forum for best turntable with my old 'Focus One'/SME '3009, S2 Imp'.

I’ve come to love the looks of the Hydraulic reference. I could’ve had one for £50 inc arm back in the day. I only wish I had. The Hi-Fi shop owner got bollocked off the owner for giving £50 part ex for it against a Rega 3 lol.

I had the Gold plated weights Chrome plated. Also John Michell sent ne a centre platter locking nut with the extra long spindle. Also go a thin glass platter from him to sit on top of the weights.

Looks incredible but 'sounded' no better than a Rega 2 of the period, maybe a bit softer - yes, I did compare them at the time!
The one item I'd happily have back regardless are the ATC 100A's. As regards domestic audio gear, all else is gaslight and I don't give a flying fig how much more advanced modern speakers are - and current 100A's have every part except the box changed since mine! I just gave up on stereo gear when I had them and miss them terribly when I open the box and let memories out... Looking back, maybe I should have kept the Mentor too, but I don't miss it with the pain I get over the ATC's when I remember them.

Thats it who gives a crap what modern alternatives sound like. Your right the Hydraulic did not sound any better than the Rega 2, but thats fine as long as those incredible looks & engineering are there & dont forget the turntable design was 1963/64, yes 1963/64 when everyone else was making utter junk.
