I don't believe for one second the claims that fans make that they like everything a band makes, regarding those long term bands. ie: 50 years.
I firmly believe that such bands had a fine output at the start of their careers that just started getting stale, Most bands had constant member changes that took a certain magic away from the collective when leaving, leading to a new creative direction, decade to decade is also a key to style change because music is not different to fashion & with time also comes more influence. Some packed up before they fell into the shit trap. Some long termers are basically nothing more than a brand name.
So no imho.
You obviously are attracted to a band from the offset because of their sound, when that sound changes down the line it as good as a totally different band. Die hard fanatics have a screw loose anyway so this thread is wasted on them If anyone asks me what bands i like, i always make a big deal out of which period in fear of embarrassment.
I used to make a massive deal out of Timelines with Prog bands when i was very obsessed with it all. I generally found pretty much everything shite past 1973 at a push. Very very rare would i entertain anything from 1974/75. These days i dont give a crap as long as it doesnt exceed into the 80's. Im not that interested in the late stuff from selected bands but just buy for complete catalogue upto 1980, im more obsessed with Condition, Neatness, Catlogue sets etc these days cos my OCD gets worse & worse. That kinda contradicts the dont give a crap comment LOL.
