I don’t know the details of the incident which kicked this off, but that officer must be nuts kicking a bloke in the face in a public space. Whether the context you shouldn’t do anything like that. You can’t even do soccer kicks to a grounded opponent in MMA and that’s without footwear. He could very easily have killed the guy. I’ve used Manchester airport a good few times and the police there do sometimes behave like bully boys and think they can do as they please. Edinburgh isn’t much better tbh. I think airport police in general think they have total impunity and their behaviour needs an overhaul. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/manchester-airport-police-video-officer-suspended-b2585650.html

Question now as to whether Trump’s nicked ear was even caused by a bullet. FBI director is suggesting it might’ve been a bit of shrapnel for a bullet striking near him.

Those bullets still killed someone and injured two others, but of course no mention subsequently of them. Of course, T will milk his injury as much as he can while he can.

Well, it's finally coming home to roost. The Telegraph is saying similar things - www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/jul/25/rachel-reeves-expected-to-reveal-20bn-shortfall-in-public-financesEffin Tory tax cuts I said back in 1980 or so when I was paying the thick end of 30% that I'd rather NOT have tax cuts if it meant a better health service and education for any kids I'd have in the future. Sure, I knew far less back then than I do now, but I wonder if things might have been a bit better had income tax not been so high and with VAT rates at 15%? I'm no economist, so maybe totally misled here

Why do they keep feeding these strikes for more pay. Why not lower the prices of food & energy so that these people who get enough wages wont need more & everyone benefits at the same time. cos what happens is give them a rise & another job sector will go on strike expecting the same. We cannot afford prices to go higher. You can blame Thatcher for that. Price controls were abandoned because she wanted to let market forces reign. It’s a failed idea that is still living on.

Well, we was warned it'd get worse and worse - and so it is...
Been out shopping and played the 'And Not or' album by Steve Hillage in the car. Despite being recorded well over forty years ago (post the Falklands War), practically every song holds as true today as then - Anthems For The Blind and Bright Future especially
'... I see banners in the sun, Land of hope and glory, The governments say a victory is won, A manufactured story. Tidal waves across the nation, Deep hypnotic programmation, Tears to slave their mind, And anthems for the blind, Deceive them till the end of time, till the end, Till the end of time. Don't believe those anthems for the blind, Anthems for the blind...'
I had tears of anger and despair welling up by the time I got home!

You seem to get a lot from lyrics and I envy that in a way. Im completely oblivious to them 99% of the time. I can often recite lyrics from favourite songs but my brain doesn’t make the connection as to what they mean or even what the song is about. I don’t know if I’m unusual in that respect or not.

I can often recite lyrics from favourite songs but my brain doesn’t make the connection as to what they mean or even what the song is about. I don’t know if I’m unusual in that respect or not. Remember I'm a tune dem bod guv'nor. I was singling along to songs in my childhood once I'd learned lyrics - herself and I take great pleasure in annoying our son by singing Beatles lyrics, as they seem engrained into our very souls without ever appearing to have done so.
Steve Hillage has always been a bit of a new-age hippy and deep down, so am I really. I've had a kind of affinity with his lyrics.
Many songs are, to herself and I, inappropriately used in commercials, the actual lyrics save for a small hook in the chorus, nothing whatsoever to do with what the ad is trying to sell
Before changing tack - whatever happened to this generation, a few years older then me, desperately wanting change for the better and now in their mid-seventies?
They seemed to go grey very early in their lives and quickly fitted in once the 80's arrived.
On a different note, good to see we're gradually getting good medals at the Olympics and seem to be enjoying the event...
