As your in CANADA & majority of your collectro will obviously be either CANADIAN or USA pressings, do you not feel you could do better regarding British Prog bands on UK pressings? Pretty much all my records are present re-issues which are obviously junk anyway but for example when i used to collect records i would look down at say an ELP album on Cotillion instead of Island. Likewise if i had an American band like FORD THEATRE on UK Stateside pressing instead of the original ABC US pressing i would look down on the Stateside.

I only dream of laminated Brit pressings.

I lurve some of the U.S. pressings. I think that the Cotillion pressings of ELP's first album and 'Pictures' sound better that the Island variants, (but not 'Tarkus' and 'Trilogy' for some inexplicable reason). And some of the alternate U.S. covers are superb. Gentle Giant, Groundhogs and Curved Air albums come to mind.

I wasn't referring to the sound cos i know those Cotillions sounded fine, its on a Collection basis.

But that depends on your interpretation of a 'collector'?
True collectors, having exhausted the output available in their own country, will quite often seek out alternatives overseas. Hence some USA-based collectors will seek out UK pressings, and UK-based collectors will seek out alternate USA releases. And then there are Japanese issues........

When i was a collector the rule was British Band British 1st issue. Yank band Yank 1st issue and so on. Some collectors are true nutterz wanting every single pressing available for all countries they were issued. I have a mate who is a Deep Purple nut. His Deep Purple collection of variations alone is as big as some people whole collections. LOL
The reasoning behind the rule i had was that i wanted to be sure that the pressing was taken from the original master & not some foreign pressing that would be taken from a copy of the master. ofc things like 'Brain Salad Surgery' were actually USA for the 1st press but with Brit cat number which in all fairness was a UK first press. At least its not a master copy creation.
