There have been many over the years. Some knobber in a Hi-Fi mag mentions an entirely vacuous record and then everybody buys it and starts talking about it. Cowboy Junkies Trinity Session was one of the first I remember, Ben Sidran was another. Then Mary Black. Lately it seems to be Buena Vista Social Club popping up again. I bought that utter Shiite when it was released because I believed the hype. What an empty piece of garbage that is. If they were busking in a city, people would be asking them to FO.
There always seems to be pressure to like the same music as others, in much the same way we are expected to follow the trends setters on Hi-Fi purchases and tweaks. I can’t be arsed with any of it. Why buy anything to fit in with, or impress others? It’s sad beyond belief.

ANYTHING played on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp).
(And, I guess Mr Baggs would include anything played on Leutonian hillbilly radio.)
For them brits wot don't know (or care) CBC is Canadian equivalent of BBC. Incredibly powerful and far-reaching (moreso far-reaching than BBC since it covers 6000 miles.)
Like BBC it is radio AND tv. A monopoly that does not depend on commercials and is government funded - so as to ensure propaganda be thriving in a healthy haven. (Back in the 70's(?) when they took Zappa to court, I believe it was then that he said he never listens to American news broadcast but gets it from Canada. Well...I wonder...)
The hosts on CBC are very intelligent speakers but also whores and chameleons. Seems like NOTHING is bad to their ears.Such a person cannot be a critic since apparently everything is the bees knees to their ears. They do not criticize or rate artists - everything they play is gold star. )However, I would LIKE to believe that off the air their tastes are a complete 180 degree reversal to the shoite they play.
CBC is big on trend -whether it be ephermal or going on for decades like ferkin rap. And big on political correctness: now indigenous artists is the big cbc thing. Indigenous gets the major slice of airplay and tv shows are popping up like mushrooms after a shit-recharge.
If they blend the trends, all the better. So now you have indigenous arts merging bone-shaking and mouthbreathing and chants to hiphop, electrodance and wotnot.
Can you even imagine?
CBC is not dress rehearsal to bad taste. It is bad musical taste incarnate.
It wasn't always so. Was a time....

Why buy anything to fit in with, or impress others? It’s sad beyond belief. Good point. To impress these others you have to step down to their level and wallow. Is better to live in a cocoon of your own making and not have such ilk of "friends". If someone, in conversation, steers me to what I call "stadium talk" I tell then forthwith I'm not going there. Sorry. I don't know it and , further, I'm not gonneur study , say, feckin' sports to get in your good graces. I'm not going to tattoo some moth-eaten trope to my chest and join TribeMoron just to get your acclaim. I'm not about to listen to entire melodies carried by the vocalist with - if your lucky - auxiliary diddle-playing in the background to techno-beat percussion. Fuck that. I'm not going to live in cookie-cutter nieghbourhood where no one plants trees because "what the heck - no one else does. we're only here for the time being, so why bovver?" If it takes abandoning society altogether, let it be. Stick to your convictions.

Buena Vista Social Club is twenty four year old news for me and counting... Sounded good on the Wilson Witts we had on dem but I didn't care for the music so never bought it. Ben Sidran - Bop City was the one. I can see why Chris Frankland used it Wife was talking about the great sales of Rumours on vinyl - I ask ya... Nobody actually seems to *listen* to the lyrics...

1976 - Joan Armatrading... I love the music still (after not being willing to play it foir ages as it was a well knackered dem record by the time it was deliberately chucked out by a colleague) but my vibe ain't shared..

German Oak was recorded in a septic tank, right? Same as one side of the 2lp set by Chiliwack.

I can’t remember which record it was, but I bought a Joan Armatrading LP late 80s. It was very well recorded but she sounds like a bloke and the songs didn’t grab me.
