Must agree about Buena Vista Social Club but was thinking of trying it again (cos it's Ry Cooder). Trinity Session is a fine record as well as quite a few by Cowboy Junkies. Nothing against Mary Black in small doses but much of her output can be rather boring. 'Columbus' remains a standard test track for me. I recon I have a fair few that were once hi-fi show favorites but have avoided the current ones - Diana Krall and Daft Punk. Good one (or bad depending) - forgotten but still pops up as TV background is Ali Farka Touré and Ry Cooder, Talking Timbuktu. Also anything by Enya or Dead Can Dance ( but am a sucker for that kind of thing).

Things can get ugly when a band is forced to fulfill a contract.Especially when the record label done them over. ELP owed Atlantic one studeo and one live record. Thus we got "Love Beach" (which actually isn't ALL that terrible peeps make it out to be. Its just that side 1 is (well executed ) pop.) But what WAS detestable was Vanilla Fudge's last on the label (Epic? ),The Beat Goes On. Solid uninteresting music with major FILL. One band that REALLY got worked over by their manager (and possibly label???) was Grand Funk.
