Aint got the energy to Think Baggs. Ter boring fer Karney-boyo these days.Prog betrayed Karney-boyo not having the power to control the Industry whims leaving Karns high & dry with no Vinyl for such Obscurities Karney lad once loved. Industry believe that Re-issuing Obscure prog all proper on Vinyl is bad move no cutter to be made for greedy moguls, but the fools are very wrong, in reflection of what originals sell for say £22 for a top quality Re-issue people will jump at it. Obscure Prog as it is today did not sell well in the day, not because it was crap but beacuse the promotion of it was pathetic. Its not that great these days but at least today the power of the internet does such things all on its own.
Take for instance the first four GENTLE GIANT LP's. Those recent re-issue sold out straight away, They wernt even what you call low price either. Shame the label designs were shite.
Those two well know Bootleg Labels need putting out of buisness for good but untill we get real good all proper Re-issues from lagit source those fuckkers will still keep bootlegging.

Andre: maybe you can help me. I'm trying to figure out early media or record sleeve mentions of the words "progressive rock". (like first Caravan issued Oct '68....back sleeve.) Now there were two V.A. sampler lps of Deram label. I have the one called "Golden Pops" which is groups like Move,Moodies and Procol (but also Cat Stevens!) I'm trying to recall the other one. I think it was called something along the lines of "Deram World of Progressive Rock" ? (both had beautiful cover arts)

It was called 'WOWIE ZOWIE' THE WORLD OF PROGRESSIVE MUSIC. I used to have a French Deram Comp called 'DERAM IS A DREAM COME TRUE'

"the first acknowledged mention of the word "progressive" linked to music was by a BRITISH magazine '66"
Any idea Andre?
"progressive " in '66 would have to be used as a descriptor (not a movement) like saying jazz being progressive way back when.
'66 cannot be any semblance of prog rock. If anything it was embryonic psych - 13 Floor Elevators,Id,Deep.

Heres the NOVA LP www.popsike.com/NOVA-SAMPLER-Egg-Aardvark-Galliard-UK-PROG-D-DECCA-70/400064395959.htmlI think we can safely say the Progressive was Pretty much a thing by 1969 However Keith Emerson & the Nice 2nd fuzzy [LONG FOR YOUR ARSE, VITA BREVIS - 1968] was Progressive

I posted this to Reddit prog forum. Wot yew fink, droog?
Caravan first album This is likely the first lp to have mention of "progressive rock " on the sleeve. The word "progressive" shows up 3 times.
But is the music really nascent prog rock? Can you say it beats out "Court of Crimson King"? Or is the word used merely as an adjective - meaning something like "improvement" or going in another unexplored direction.
Not sure I'm hearing embryonic prog here. If it is, its HAPPY prog - not the usual template.
Something like "Policeman" sounds toytown popsike to me.

The problem with early prog is the slow crossing over of bands, some moved faster than others, Some didnt quite fit into it, i think this is why we got strange pigeon holes by the press like 'Canterbury' that pened a certain sound to its own still carrying the mother title 'PROGRESSIVE'. But Who says what true PROG signature is suppose to sound? Well i suppose we have to go by the majority of people that you would hit with the Question, I can safely guess they would come up with GENESIS, YES, ELP off the top of their heads, they would also most probably mention the stage antics of these bands. I personally know what constitutes prog that i think is prog.
I personally don't thing Caravan furt LP carries what i deem Prog, same can be said for Floyd, Hawkwind, Gong those are also non Prog to me.

A difficult one for Perms The Karner:
tracks where you can hear the whoosh-whoosh of the Leslie speakers spinning
Kin Ping Meh - Mrs Holmes
Uriah Heep - the first live (I forget exactly where)
