Up until recently i used to be super fussy about cartridge alighnment & initial set up. These days i dont give a rats arse anymore, All i do is what TECHNICS do use a Overhange guage. I just mark it off to the overhang i need ensure is alighned in the shell, jobs a good un. Way too much bollox with this specific area of Audio foolery, zero distortion picked up with my lugholes. Quite simple really Pivit to Spindle - 200mm Arm effective length - 211mm hence overhang - 11mm Here a Techy Headshell tool marked off sat on a dusty piece of glass i need to un dust LOL

I tried to tell you that, you wotsit I use(d) the Dual carrier gauge which does similar things and aligns the same as the techie gauge (57 - 58mm from disc centre). Almost ALL my cartridges align correctly with screws halfway in the slots. Using the more modern 65mm inner point, the cartridge is forward by a mm or two (I always wondered until I did a bit more research - so hopefully you lot don't have to). Like you say, no bleedin' difference sonically (any tracking error at the beginning of side is irrelevant due to 'read speed' nearer the disc edge) - so there!!! Just bloody well enjoy the thing. And good luck if you do see a Beogram you like. The cartridge probably worth as much or more than the deck itself...

The Techie gauge is really accurate. Checked it against 'proper' alignment protractors.

I know you did Davee but i wasnt having it. To wrapped up with acurate Alighnment. Ues those thing & you are in an even worse state of worry hence Paranoia sets in, Bright sparks that go one about different protractors givving different set up just make matter worse. Pillocks that think they can re invent things Saw a new old stock 'SP14' the other day £250

WHAT? ?? Why the EFF did B&O ditch all their tooling and so on for replacement styli and cartridges. I'm sure they could have kept it low key with one or two models from each era. Shure the same, as Ortofon do with the F/FF 15E for example! I have an SP14 stylus (unknown hours) and it's really dull sounding. SP12 is nice though, not 'sweet' as such like an ADC XLM but refined and gentle without losing it all. The MMC 20CL is similar if not more-so, if you see what I mean, but it's temperature sensitive and really opens up this time of year (the larger complex parallel tracking Beograms warmed the playing area up a little to help I remember)
