Couldn't quite believe that after years of nothingness, two books featuring Curved Air have shown up - 'Curved Air in the 1970's' by Laura Shenton, and 'Curved Air Complete Recordings Illustrated' by A. P. Sparke.
Still trying to build up the stamina to read the ELP tome 'Endless Enigma' by Edward Macan.

Macan is great. He made the important observation that being aware of SECULAR musics makes for incredible epic-prog climaxes. Errrr...or was that Stump??? 'Curved Air Complete Recordings ILLUSTRATED" ? .......... RAYMOND KHOURY - THE LAST TEMPLAR I don't know which came first, this (2005) or Brown's "DaVinci Code". Both are the exact same theme:Vatican suppressing Coptic Scroles-thought where Jesus is just a man and supernatural is discredited. Its all a hoax.

Still building back up my History books sucessfully breaking away from Hi-Fi, Have no desire to switch the stereo on recently. Pretty much an ornament now. I used to have hundreds of books ranging from the Norman conquest (1066) to the end of the Tudor Dynasty (1603), believe me that is a hell of a lot of History.. Not interested in anything after last Tudor Monarch: Elizabeth I. Wouldnt be me without cherry picking select periods Always Hardback too, Softback are shite designed for trains & plane reading they hold zero value imho. Anyhoots reading: The Pastons - A family in the Wars of the Roses, Richard Barber Recieved this morning: In the Reign of King John: A Year in the Life of Plantagenet England, Dan Jones.

Nice to see you enjoying yourself. I still haven’t got past chapter one of any book recently. Work just drains me. Maybe in Spring.

too right its all bollox. i don't give a rats arse just use a shitty old Thorens 'TD150' of which was, as everyone knows, taken on from an intial pioneering design by AR in the early 60's. A design that was used in one form or another for the last 60 years and of which is still available to this day. 'TD150' are a fackin' nightmare to me in many ways but all turntables are a pain in the arse in one way or another.
The trouble with over engineered specialist Turntable is science or lack of it & designer brain waves gets in the way causing more troubles than what they are worth. The extra heavy two part plater made to overcome inerta issues together with the shitty motor was the major issue ive always had with this deck.
I don't believe there is a single 'TD150' in everyday use that would start up to full speed before you can get up & go put the kettle on. Ferkin painful it is to watch. I ended up sorting the issues by taking away the spring suspension replacing it with Analogue Innovation 'SOLE' elastomerisolators.. kick start the turntable to speed, mastering the art of changing records as the deck continues running.

I’ve always changed records whilst running. You do have to be sure of low static with thin felt mats, but otherwise it’s done me no harm. Many better mats than felt anyway.

I had an expensive accident with a felt mat years ago wiped the cantilever of a brand new expensive Cartridge when the mat static bonded it to the record while lifting it off. Never used a light matt since. I use a heavy rubber matt from a Dual 503-3, i have for near on 20 years now.

Got a new book today: THE PRINCES IN THE TOWER, Allison Weir. This is about 9 & 12 years old Edward V & his brother Richard of Shrewsbury that were sent to the Tower of London by their uncle, unawares they were to be killed. Apparently they were made out to be illigitimate sons of King Edward IV making way for Richard III to be king.

Ah, so you finally got a TD150
My 160 starts very quickly with the clutch-pulley. Just a swishing noise until the platter reaches speed. I suggested it before, if you can be arsed to find a later motor which should fit straight in. I used to push-start the 125 I wish I'd kept (I liked the style) and I hope it helps the stretchy belt a bit. My beef with the 160 is it runs too fast as a Rega does but a trad third party belt (slightly thicker) runs the deck at the right speed but speed change with the mechanism os impossible as this thicker belt won't ride up to the 45 step without help. Anyway, you probably know all this so sorry to crap the thread.

Only had it 6 months LOL. Just waiting for a decent Japanese deck to turn up ill be happy with & that wont be a direct drive befor you ask I refuse to pay what they want for a second hand TD160 motor, the deck just is not worth it, id rather buy an old Japanese deck, i can also be rid of this Jelco arm in the process. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115605988398?Pisstaking Stupidity. btw: Ariston used a Clutch Pulley with Square belt for the 'RD11S' that didnt work right either.
