Ultimate quality is of no importance anymore so my money will more than likley be a Pioneer 'PL112' With a black Ash finished bottom half of the plinth they can mingle into a modern surrounding just fine. A semi Auto version: 'PL115' would be better for me being lazy nowadays.

I thought you'd chucked the Thorens out and sold the nice bits you'd bought - sorry (hang on, I seem to remember you'd bought another ). A 160 motor would solve your criticism though as th eplatter starts so much quicker and offers less strain on the belt, but I shan't mention it again. I'll say this though anyway, that high speed induction/synchronous motors as used in originally lower cost Jap decks vibrate and can put a high-bass drone harmonic into the sound as picked up by the stylus. This is one area the TD150/160 are good as they offer silence apart from groove roar in the background. Direct drive if dsone right is still best, but the cheap OE=M Matsushita motor wasn't at all good for dynamic wow. the two SL1500mk1's I've had here are absolutely fuss-free superb though with a cork mat on top of the thick rubber original to get the arm level with a modern techie shell. Just site as a Rega and take the lid off when playing.
P.S. the PL-112D looked fab but I didn't like it sound-wise at the time and it never sold as well as its increasingly shabby predecessor which was noticeably worse in 12D mk2 form. A pal of mine bought a 112D, re-did the plinth which had peeling 'veneer' and it looked great when done and with a modern cartridge found it very nice indeed!

I did buy another another that and some more sole jobbies. Theres a firm somewhere that makes some new made isolation system for the Pioneer as you know these is a plate with a suspension that can be altered by the user for bounce.

It’s gonna be expensive as it will be longer than encyclopaedia Brittanica.

I’m reading The Synronicity Key by David Wilcox. It’s an alternative view on the nature of the universe. Good in parts.
