When circumstances in life change & you don't have time or interest anymore in things you used to live for, things change, that's life i guess.
Music will always be a massive part of my life, that will never change but the playtime with sound equipment & collecting records ive decided to knock on the head for good.
Ive decided to buy a small, old but cheap semi automatic turntable i can just plonk on the living room unit. Semi Automatic is a very important thing for me as i don't intend sitting down pinned to the music in concentration, its more a put the record on for background music while im doing things so it can finish & lift on its own, come back to it when i come back to it. Ive exhausted this Hobby to the point of disinterest where important little things just do not matter anymore. Speakers can just sit on their sides high up out the way on top of the unit, as long as they emanate enjoyable sound i don't care about the bullshit that Enthusiasts find detrimental.
Ive already got shut of hundreds of records, i don't bother with Obscure Prog anymore, just a hand full of favorite run of the mill albums, life is just to short & too many records are pointless when you don't have dedicated time. As long as i have my ELP/GENESIS/PINK FLOYD/VDGG/YES Prog albums & my BLACK SABBATH/DEEP PURPLE heavy albums for when im in a mood that's all that matters.
So watch this space.

I got out for about 8 years but I’m very glad I got back in. It’s no bad idea thinning out records though. I prefer to have less records and enjoy them all than having to search through loads I never play.

I wont get back into it now. Ive always said id be done with Hi-Fi before i was 60.I think knowing i cant afford to have what i want & what makes it worse is the fact ive already had years ago. i was actually planning re-buying as the last thing kinda sealed the coffin for me cos im a real mardy bastard at times that throws his dummy out the pram when he cant have what he want, easier to just walk away really concentrate on other things that dont cost money. Its just a matter of buying the cheapest vintage things under the radar that are acceptable quality wise & be done.

I remember when I got out of it, the reason was finances. I was studying for years and just had no money. When I got back in, I still had no money and bought stuff for next to nothing. I didn’t enjoy it less: In fact I think I treasured it more.
It was an Arcam alpha amp bought for £6 at a car boot sale that started it. It was full of candle wax that I had to carefully remove, and then re spray the top where the dripping candle had stood.
I quickly got a cheap Philips CD for not much more and a pair of Eltax Liberty 3 from Richer sounds on my card. I stressed over paying the £59 back when I could barely buy food.
That system still makes me smile today. It was like coming home after years without music.

Like i say ill not get back into it for two reasons, i will never be seen dead with modern equipment again & secondly the vintage gear i was wanting has stupid price tags caused by dealers & single brain cell Sheep hence ive come to the end. I shall cherish my little TRIO amp.
btw: Looking again at RIDLEY it could be a ROTEL 'RX102' or a 'RX152' They all look similar from a distance

Obviously loads will turn their noses up but the Libertys were well made.

I bought Libertys when they first came out. 25mm MDF cabinets that weighed a ton, i think i got em from Richer sounds with a Cheap SONY 'XE530' CD player or could have been the earlier 'XE510' machine. I used to just go up and buy cheap stuff to put me on till i bought something more specialised but looking back i have no idea why i even bothered with the expensive stuff. Suppose its the snobby streak in audio enthusiasts showing its deluded head

Still waiting for one of a couple of 70's decks to surface that will get me out of Hi-Fi for good. I don't give a rats arse anymore about the technicalities that were once a bug bear for me choosing decks to live with. It don't matter no more as long as it's totally mint & i can plug/play. I have a plan & when i get what i want the matching Amp & Cassette Deck will follow so i can just stack the lot on top of each other. Very rare i put the stereo on these days, when i do i don't really pay attention to details so don't matter to me. Ive lived with specialist decks all my life & they are laborious Junk, literally. Now the penny has dropped 40 years down the line One thing i remember Rudy saying that all Hi-Fi is shit, Gotta give it to him he was right & that agreement aint just for the sake of it, ive been, i would not say blessed but burdened enough to have had the money years ago to swap & change an inordinate amount of gear in short periods. To fully agree.
