Is Wallace going simple??
Or do I just want a break from prog/psych?
This morning, for a friend, I purchased PROPAGANDA - A SECRET WISH lp. Was just playing it now and really enjoyed it even though its synthpop-newwave from '85.
In the '80s the company I worked for moved from Toronto to Windsor, so I ended up wasting a decade in shithole/cultureless Windsor, Ontario. There was only one used record store and this was the 80s,so you know it was the prog doldrums. No internet back then so the only resort was to listen to the university radio station - which meant mainly electrobeatpop music and punk. So I wallowed thru all that shit and actually picked up some dance" bands I COULD get into Souxie,Smiths,Woodentops,Cure,Swans ... Really the only prog I remember they played on that university station were Rascal Reporters.
So that's where I first heard Propaganda.
Like I know you have heard me say many times that a a guilty pleasure is the Lexicon Of Love lp by ABC. Well Propaganda is like that: stupid "drumming" that might as well be a machine (and on some occasions was)...upbeat dance music, loikes.
I think Propaganda were German. I would describe the music as sorta Yello cross with Nina Hagen (because the female singer has a german accent).
Okay ,to get to the point:
I just now enjoyed this Propaganda so much I want to know if you ,Andre, can recommend me something along the line in this synthpop sound. I know a whiles back you were lauding - I think it was - Depeche Mode and I was laughing at you (without really knowing what DM were like.
So, if any of these bands - Ultravox,Human League, Magazine, Spandau Ballet etc. have a good SINGLE ALBUM that you recommend, I'm all ears.
I say SINGLE because ,although I love "Ocean Rain" lp by Echo & Bunnymen and "New Gold Dream" by Simple Minds, I dont particularly like their other output.
However, be warned, one electropop band I DO NOT LIKE is Orchestral Movements in the Dark.
