I traded in a lot of kit & spent a fair chunk of cash to get my Luxman but I'm very pleased with the sound & consider it a very worthwhile investment + I was after a one box solution & this fulfils it admirably Impossible not to appreciate that amp unless you’re blind. It’s a beauty and I’m jealous.

Nice, but not my cup of tea. I prefer utilitarian looking amps.

Shane, you seriously don't know what you're missing with an amp like that (Accuphase the same). Sure they're male jewellery, but the build and 'feel' of the controls (no empty spaces inside them either) is a joy, they 'sound' just fine with domestic speakers at domestic levels and if you can afford to buy one, what the heck, while 'we' scratch around with old second hand tat frankly! Sorry to say that, but it's true really isn't it? This one's on my bucket list and after nearly half a century, I still love it, especially this late 70's version. needs it's rack ears though for best effect -
You could buy fifteen of these now for one of those new Luxman amps...

I don't think I'm missing out on anything much, Dave. S. Wash your mouth out with soap young man - you haven't an effin' clue
I hear one regularly and use the smaller D-150 to this day. Also have D-60's coming out my ears (I inherited two tatty bridged sets and use one in stereo for me headphones). You can NEVER have too much power - within reason and these were very high end in their day.

Young man? I'm 31, Dave. S. You're a mere stripling sir, half my age
Remember, I started mopping all this audio shit up in magazines when I was ten years old - that's 1967 - and took a keen visual interest if little else long before that! The music's been with me since before I could toddle, so that's a given!
I do wish I'd kept or been able to clean up and keep, the Hi Fi Sound mags from the late 60's. Loads of good info and the measured beginnings of what became blind subjectivist folklore (solid state amp warm up). One multi review was of four of the now revered old turntables (401, TD124, G99 and Sony TTS 3000 which 'won' that test) and it discussed how to reduce motor drone/vibration. I remember roughly what they did to reduce the motor supply voltage but it would have been great to quote the text and share the review. Maybe the national library may have scans if not physical copies?

I understand what you are saying regarding Luxury & they are beautiful things but im afraid im with Shane, I would not buy one. My heart is with Minimalist small scale amps & i think Shane is the same, just that im of an older choice in gear.

Young man? I'm 31, Dave. S. It’s all relative. These days a 40 year old is a “lad” to me lol. Wish it weren’t so,

I’d have that Luxman in a heartbeat as I would an Accuphase. Tastes often change with fashion and throughout life. Ten years ago I’d have (blindly) scoffed at integrateds and now i wouldn’t want a pre/power,

Well you know its a 'Hi-Fi look at me im serious thing'. 'O God what would people think if i had an intergraturd amp' & all that bollox. I would never buy another Pre/Power amp.

The only battleship looking amp I liked, was the Rotel Michi RHB-10. It was pretty without looking overly bling.

The DC300 always looks like someone has chopped the rear off it. Kinda reminds me of this famous sketch from Father Ted. image hosting

What does not compute with me is Hi-fi dudes always go on about short signal paths, short cables & all that crap yet they introduce more of it by using a Pre/Power. Got news dudes Simple signal paths do not equate to better sound, on the contrary.
