If you will play it a lot, then why no, I say! We all have our own sliding scale of value that is illogical on an absolute scale. I’m shelling out £200 a throw for toy aeroplanes FFS. If I’d met someone doing this a couple of years ago, I’d have thought they were both mental and stupid. They do hold their value extremely well, and careful choices will actually make you money over time, but it’s still a daft price for “man toys”. At least you will do more than just stare at your half speed master.

There is Value & actually being able to sell it in the long run. I had quite a few re-issues that were valued at hundreds each but i just could not shift them & ended up selling at a loss. I buy nothing now unless i play it regular. Never ever buy for keep sake.
Books are different as long as you dont have masses of them they are part of anyones Room decor, but Records & CD's are pig ugly & need housing out of sight imho

Not ugly. Records are Ugly, CD's are more so. I have OCD but its the uniformity thats makes them so. Best in a cupboard but then again braggers cant brag when they are out of sight. Not can they boost their ego out of sight

Ancient post of Wallace's:
"Apparently unlike Momus (who's music I admire a lot) I am drawn to a stack of records like the Pooh is to a honeypot. Doesnt matter; a wall of vinyl is beautiful if come upon in a dank, soppy Hannibal Lecter-basement or Kublai Khan's Pleasure Dome.
But you gotta give Momus credit for going against the vinyl-resurgence hype that you are almost daily spoonfed and see plastered everywhere.
Face it. Records are a dying breed and the (new advance of) cds DO sound better.
But that doesnt matter one iota since we all (those that matter at least) INTRINSICALLY CHERISH vinyl, since vinyl has nigh-museumish PERMANENCE and TANGIBILITY and since we HAVE to - at the very least -appear to love it since we ammassed so much of it over the past decades.

I’d use vinyl a helluva lot more if I was retired, working full time gives you so little time to enjoy music with full attention. Having to jump up every time the stylus reaches the end grooves isn’t a good mix with work.

That is how diligently you work?
Can't spare half a minute to work the stylus?
(Ahh but those half minutes add up, correct?)

You be surprised how many Audio guys have Record Decks/Record Collections but seldom use them. They are a pain in the arse where time & convenience are concerned. Unless you have all the time in the world & can really be bothered.

People messaging, emailing, phoning just when you are enjoying a favourite track. With a cd you can just pause. That said, vinyl is still well worth the hassle AFAIC. I’ve been busy renovating the house too, so my vinyl time has been squeezed. Another couple of weeks and I’m done until Spring.

A single wall of records - presentation-wise - is much preferred.
But one could also have the collection distributed in more than one room, or spread out in a single room.
My records/cds/books are shelved in 5 rooms. I'm of two minds on the aesthetics of this. On the plus side, it is bound to make an impression on a visitor. On the minus side, it is rather cluttered (even if meticulously housed) and a bit confusing/challenging when you are searching for a particular title.
